Looking for a Warm Weather Location?

    Thursday, December 4, 2008, 08:16 PM [General]

I've been investigating Palm Springs as a warm weather destination.   WoW!   There are so many activities there.  Being in a desert environment, there are numerous unique desert activities too.

There are beautiful condo resort properties, but the boutique hotel that am focusing on is the Desert Riviera Hotel.  Family operated and recently renovated, enjoy happy citrus colors in your room and network with other guests there -- they only have a limited amount of rooms  --17? for this boutique hotel.

    To check it out...

A definite must see is:   the Palm Springs Follies -- where all performers range in age from 55 to 85 years old & they are simply amazing.    http://www.psfollies.com/

    Stocking Stuffers

Thursday, December 4, 2008, 08:16 PM CST [General]

Stocking Stuffers are great: sweet little treats that are fun to get and even more fun to buy!  I love searching for just the right little present that will delight the recipient and still fit in the stocking.  Some items are traditions, like the chocolate orange my husband always gets.  Other things are more challenging such as just the right pair of gloves for Ben's fishing trips or making the perfect cards for my sister.

My store has many ideas for stocking stuffers that will delight anyone!

Street Fighter 4: Street Fighter 4 Steps Back to Step Forward

    Thursday, December 4, 2008, 08:10 PM [Street Fighter 4]

The upcoming release of Street Fighter 4 is taking a step back, showing it's SF2 roots as it "borrows" many of the old characters and game play style. I've had the chance to play this game at the arcade and it's going to be a great addition to the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC 2009 line up.

Street Fighter 4 is definitely going to have it's fair share of stunning imagry with the high definition enhancement. Leave it to those Japanese designersw to come up with mind-blowing graphics. There will be plenty of Street Fighter 4 Wallpaper floating around prior to the January 2009 release so keep your desktop satisfied and stock up.

The addition of the new bosses, plus the revamped moves will leave plenty of room for new cheats and Street Fighter 4 Walkthroughs to help you and me through the new levels. I think the new fight moves (focused attacks and ultra combos), online play, and graphics, will make SF4 the best Street Fighter release ever. If there are still questions on your plate, hit Capcom up for their Street Fighter 4 FAQs.

    Single Parent Travel

    Thursday, December 4, 2008, 08:10 PM [General]

The “bad” news is that the number of single parents seeking quality vacations with their children is growing.

The good news is that the number of single parents seeking quality vacations with their children is growing.

Brenda Elwell is a single mom who’s traveled solo with her kids for twenty years, but chafed under the realization that she and single parents as a group were “woefully neglected by the travel industry.”

She says that all aspects of the travel industry make the same mistake: they assume the needs and desires of single adults traveling with kids are the same as double-parent families.

So, Elwell did something about the problem: she wrote what may be the definitive book on single parent travel: The Single Parent Travel Handbook (GlobalBrenda Publishing, Secaucus, NJ, 2002, www.Globalbrenda.com) covering everything from Documents and Vaccinations to Planning, Money Matters and the Trip Itself.

For Sharyn Saffan becoming a single mom with two young boys seven years ago was a rude awakening. It hurt the New Yorker that her circle of friends had suddenly changed dramatically.

And it bothered her that when she was on vacation with her two boys, she had no one to talk to or “hang out” with. “The kids had a great time at family-oriented resorts,” she said, “but I was alone.

Most of the guests either were couples or had no kids and didn’t want my company. It was a pretty lonely experience.”

A big part of any single parent travel is being sure single parents meet other single parents, while insuring both kids and moms have a terrific time together and individually.”

By far, cruises are the most popular travel for single parents, it seems, because there’s so much for the kids to do day and night, that the single moms or dad get their chance to meet and mingle.

But the “meeting and mingling” isn’t all accidental.

Single Parent travel organizers work hard behind the scenes at creating a private room for a cocktail party for groups usually of about twenty.

Or they’ll reserve a space by the pool at an all-inclusive, the second type of preferred vacation for single parents.

Often there are games with parents and kids,  prizes, a private barbecue… and being sure single parents sit together at dinner.

But not every single parent wants the same amount of togetherness, trips are often designed so families can come and go as they prefer.

Still the majority seem to buy into the routine of being together and doing many of the same things.

Single Parent travel experts note that although cruises are extremely attractive, they seldom are comfortable traveling farther than the Caribbean or Mexico, often because of custodial issues.

And there seems to be a distance thing that “kicks in.” “This far and no farther.”

More than one-quarter of all US households with children are headed by a single parent. That’s 16.5 million single parent households in this country, and many more non-custodial single parents.

And that doesn’t even include married adults traveling alone with their kids, or how about single grandparents and their kids?

Then add to that gays who have been adopting children, but often travel alone with the child…this is a huge “non traditional” market.

Brenda Elwell says single parents, by necessity, are working parents, and when they vacation with their child or children, they want to spend quality time and fun time with them, not escape from them.

Single parents are not part of a couple nor are they "swinging singles." They are looking for family activities that both parent and child can enjoy doing together.

Elwell offers a series of Weekend Getaways across the country.
“We post these, and indicate price for a single parent with one child or two or three.

“I have to tell you,” she says, “the number of repeat clients, and thank you's we get from grateful single parents is amazing!”

    SLOW TIMES

Thursday, December 4, 2008, 08:06 PM CST [General]

Online sales have been really slow.  I made only one sale over the weekend, which I am thankful for.  I guess I set myself up by believing that Black Friday and Cyber Monday would be HUGE.  My toys are selling well here in Portland at the shops I have them in.  I just thought the internet would be so much better.  You know, because of the massive amount of people you can reach all at once.  Perhaps I am doing something wrong with the marketing of my craft.  I welcome feedback from other crafters.

    Vince McMahon angry about CCW

Thursday, December 4, 2008, 09:00 PM EST [General]

I think it is very hypocritical that Vince McMahon is angry about CCW and is forbiding the wwe staff from having contact with the people on the show such as Hulk Hogan and Jimmy Hart. Isn't CCW sort of the exact same thing as Tough Enough except for the fact that it involves Celebrities. CCW isn't exposing the wrestling business any more than Tough Enough did. Why doesnt Vince just get over it and focus on making the WWE more interesting? He is just upset that its not WWE doing CCW even though it has already been done just under a different name.

    Edge's return

Thursday, December 4, 2008, 08:49 PM EST [General]

I was kind of excited when i heard edge was comming back at Survivor Series because i thought it would be different but now im disapointed because its exactly the same as it was before. I was expecting him to interfere in the casket match between the Undertaker and the Big Show which would have been more interesting than taking Jeff Hardy's place in the Triple threat match at the last minute. He would have gotten revenge on the undertaker for sending him to hell by helping  the big show put him in the casket if i was the writer for the WWE thats how it would be. Also i would have been a lot better if Christian Cage had returned with Edge. WWE needs to start having more intersting storylines because its starting to get boring.

    Turbine marches continued yearly expansions

    Thursday, December 4, 2008, 07:36 PM [General]

Executive producer for Lord of the Rings Online Jeffrey Steefel doesn't seem to have any interest in mimicking his companies competitors. He recently told gamesindustry.biz, "We have been driving our content strategy based on our game and our audience," adding, "What other folks do is driven by their needs." You really do have to appreciate a company that knows where its livelihood lies.

So players can expect the same amount of book updates and further yearly expansions, which sounds like it can only be a good thing for a game that at launch was often tagged with the, "Not enough to do at end-game" complaint. It doesn't seem like that's ever going to become a problem again, however.
